Dacia Logan

Dacia LoganIn the late 1990s new prospects began opening up rapidly for the automobile industry. The world's three biggest markets,Western Europe, the United States and Japan, had become replacement markets offering no further potential for major growth. Until then, 80% of the world population had had only limited access to cars, but new, promising and buoyant markets were starting to emerge.

Renault

In 1965, Renault began to study a new model to bridge the gap between the Renault 8 and the Renault 16. The demands for Project 117 were:

"The car had to be economical, not very sophisticated. It had to have a roomy interior, and a large boot, and a small engine will suffice.

Dacia Nova

New Dacia NovaNova was the first car entirely designed at Colibasi plant by Romanian designers. The time needed for that car to be completed was long, which explains the slightly outdated design of the coachwork. The car was a berline in 2,1/2 volumes with hayon, 5 doors, 5 places and was named R523. The 1,557 cc engine was transversely placed, leading to a 72 HP power.

Dacia 500 Lastun

The Lăstun, also named "Dacia 500", was a cost-effective Romanian car for urban transport built in the mid and late 1980s. It featured a two cylinder air-cooled engine of 499 cc, producing 22.5 HP, with a fuel consumption of 3.3 L/100 km and having a maximum speed 106 km/h.

Dacia 1300

The Renault 12 was a large family car produced by the French manufacturer Renault between 1968 and 1980. Available as a sedan and station wagon, it was also produced under licence in many countries across the globe into the early 21st century.

Dacia 1100

The Renault 8 (Renault R8 until 1964) and Renault 10 were compact automobiles produced by the French manufacturer Renault in the 1960s and early 1970s. The 8 was launched in 1962, and the 10, a more upmarket version of the 8, was launched in 1965. Both ceased production and sales in France in 1971, although they were produced in Bulgaria until 1970 (see Bulgar Renault), and continued to be produced in Spain until 1976.

Dacia

In order to reduce the time needed before starting a serial production, it was considered necessary to begin by making an automobile under license.
A license invoice for a medium class automobile with a 1,000-1,300 cc engine, for a production series of 40-50,000 cars/year was launched. Renault, Peugeot, Fiat, Alfa Romeo and Austin companies made bids. Also, tests were made with the following cars: Renault 10, Peugeot 204, Fiat 1100D, Alfa Romeo 1300, Austin Mini Morris. From technical and economic reasons, the offer made by Renault company for the automobile Renault 12 was retained. The car was in the prototype testing phase, and its production was due to begin in France, in the second half of 1969. But the contract was signed in September 1966. The Renault staff allowed the Romanian side to begin earlier the assembling and a partly integration of another type of automobile from the same range, until Renault 12 was ready for production. Renault 16 was chosen for the beginning. But, motivated by the necessary foreign currency effort, it was decided that Renault 8 be assembled.
